Christmas Day
Advent 2025
O God with us O word of light, sun-spoken brilliance, night-spinning song-shimmering stars, O voice of life, soil-bursting air-rushing sea-swarming delight, your breath into ours, you unknowable knower unreachable reacher, you the one to walk with us, find us, send us out cursed and pull us close O God of floods, of rams and ladders, plagues and fiery shrubs, God of heaven bread, stony water, serpents, God we fear and long for We write our songs to you, we fight you and we fight for you, we flee, we lust and repent, we weep, we wait, we pray, we wonder if maybe you sleep, we reign poorly and afraid, we rage, waste, hunger, hope we kill the things you made, we wait. O God we hold you you!— the impossible we hold you, God, and we will raise you and wreck you, we will love and murder you, and you will go, you will do it. That one moment the single breath of eternity, the voice silenced and then the shattering of hell, the final dying of death, the out- bursting of the light burning darkness forever. We are yours. You hold us God, you hold us and you come to us always.
